MLA says he will resign to press for ballot paper

Mumbai: Malshiras NCP-SP legislator Uttam Jankar has threatened to quit from the legislative assembly to press his demand for elections on ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines.
“I have lost faith in EVMs, I am meeting CEC Rajiv Kumar on Jan 23 to press our demand for elections on ballot papers. from Jan 25, I will launch an indefinite strike at Jantar Mantar, New-Delhi,’ he told TOI.
Since Jankar won the assembly polls from Malshiras in Solapur district as a nominee of Sharad Pawar-led NCP, he has raised doubt over validity of elections on EVM. In the 2019 poll, he was defeated by BJP’s Ram Satpute by a margin of 2,590 votes, while in the 2024 election, Satpute was defeated by Jankar by a margin of 13,147 votes. —Prafulla Marpakwar
