MLA Salary Donation: BJP MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak Donates 1st Month’s Salary to Needy Families | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: First-time BJP MLA from Chhatrapur, Krushna Chandra Nayak, donated his legislator’s salary for the inaugural month to two needy families in his constituency in Ganjam district.
While he gave Rs 27,000 to a widow from Basanapalli in Chikalakhandi panchayat, whose daughter got married recently, he donated Rs 25,000 to the family members of a priest from Kumarbegpalli in Podapadar.
The priest is suffering from an ailment and is admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. His family is facing hardships. Nayak also spoke to the hospital administration about the condition of the priest.
“After seeing the condition of these poor families, I decided to donate my MLA’s salary, which I got recently, to these needy people,” Nayak said.
“During campaigning, I had announced to donate my salary and utilize the same to help poor families in my area. I was merely reiterating my promise after getting my first salary,” said the 39-year old MLA, who got Rs 43,000 as his first month’s salary. An MLA in Odisha gets around Rs 1 lakh (including allowances). Since BJP govt took oath on June 12, Nayak’s salary was calculated only after that.
Nayak said he is happy to have kept his election promise. “I will try to continue it in the coming days by donating part of my salary to the needy people,” he said.
