Berhampur: MKCG Medical College and Hospital here installed an automatic slide-stainer machine to conduct different blood tests quickly on Thursday. The machine, provided by a private company, can test around 40,000 blood samples in a minute.
“The machine will determine complete blood count (CBC), identify blood samples with abnormalities, and stain blood on slides perfectly. It also provides a provisional diagnosis of blood abnormalities,” said Suchitra Dash, superintendent-cum-principal of MKCG, who inaugurated the machine.
“Even with its accuracy, pathologists will study the slides and give their final diagnosis,” she said. Some pathologists have taken training to operate the machine, while it is functioning on trial at present. “As the machine tests blood samples quickly, patients will not have to wait for blood tests in the pathology department,” she added.TNN
