Miyawaki Plantation: 5 More Urban Forests Planned Using Miyawaki Plantation | Bhubaneswar News

Koraput: After transforming a patch of barren land near Makaput on the outskirts of Jeypore into a dense forest, forest officials have decided to implement the Miyawaki plantation method in five new patches.
The method, named after Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, accelerates forest growth ten-fold and increases tree density, oxygen release and carbon dioxide absorption by 30 times compared to conventional methods.
In 2021-22, the Jeypore forest range on an experimental basis planted 90 varieties of medicinal and fruit-bearing plants across 2.5 acres of land near Makaput. Within just two years, the trees have grown 15-20-ft high.
“At least 80,00 trees have been grown on 2.5 acres of land through the Miyawaki method. As the experiment has been a success, we have decided to create five more similar forests under the technique,” said Sachidananda Parida, forest range officer of Jeypore.
