Missing woman’s case: 12-hour-long protest in Bargarh; main accused detained

Sambalpur: A 12-hour-long strike was observed by a social outfit in Bargarh district on Tuesday to protest alleged police inaction in connection with the missing case of a 24-year-old woman, who was subsequently found in a forest injured earlier this month. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on the Bargarh-Raipur stretch of National Highway-53 for hours as protesters demonstrated, demanding arrest of the prime accused in the case.
Later in the day, the prime accused was nabbed from Titlagarh railway station and detained for questioning. He was identified as Rakesh Dansena. “He will be interrogated later in the day before he is arrested and produced in court on Wednesday,” IG (northern range) Himanshu Lal said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway and more details will be provided on Wednesday.
Bargarh SP Prahlad Sahai Meena on Tuesday said one more person, identified as Rahul Bhosagar who is a resident of Bargarh, was arrested. He was being interrogated by the police for the past several days.
So far, four people have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to her family, the woman left her home, located at a village in Bargarh district, on Jan 12 and they later received a call from her phone where a man informed them that their daughter is lying injured in Kurla forest and they should bring 15-20 people to search for her in the jungle. Accordingly, the family went to the forest but did not find her there. They then filed a missing person’s complaint at Town police station in Bargarh and two days later, they came to know that their daughter was found in the forest with multiple injuries on her head and body. She is currently undergoing treatment at VIMSAR, Burla.
The villagers, when they came to know that she has been found, blocked the Bargarh-Bhatli road for six hours on Jan 16, suspecting that she was gang-raped. They demanded the arrest of the accused in the case and proper treatment of the girl.
