Rourkela: Four armed miscreants allegedly robbed gold ornaments and cash worth around Rs 1 crore from a businessman’s house in Barpali village, Hemgir, on Sunday midnight.
According to police reports, the burglars, armed with firearms and bhojalis, broke into the house of Nikhil Agrawal around 12:30 am. They held nine family members at gunpoint, confined them to a room, and fled with 1.5 kg of gold, 1 kg of silver and Rs 1.80 lakh.
The valuables were reportedly kept for Agrawal’s son’s wedding, scheduled for Jan 27. His son works in the merchant navy.
On Tuesday, DIG of western range, Brijesh Kumar Rai, and Sundargarh SP Pratyush Diwakar visited the crime scene to review the investigation. “We are investigating the case from different angles,” said Rai. “The miscreants might had come from neighbouring Chhattisgarh, and we are working to get leads about their whereabouts.”
Hemgir police have registered a case and deployed a forensic team for investigation. Officials are also examining CCTV footage from the locality to identify the perpetrators.
Agrawal filed a complaint on Monday at Hemgir police station, following which an investigation was launched. Police sources said special teams have been formed to track down the burglars.
