Kendrapada: A 16-year-old rape survivor tried to end her life by consuming poison on the court premises on Friday, apparently over some differences with her parents. The girl had accompanied her parents to the Pocso court for a hearing related to her alleged rape case.
Her mother had filed an FIR on June 6, 2024, alleging that Keshab Das (21) had raped her daughter.

Acting on the complaint, police had arrested the accused.
On Friday, her mother was the first to depose. During her father’s cross-examination, the minor went to the washroom and consumed poison, said Itihas Lenka, lawyer of the accused.
She was taken to the district government hospital in Kendrapada and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her condition was serious. “Police are investigating the case,” said Dilip Sahoo, IIC, Kendrapada Town police station IIC.
