Kendrapada: Two minor girls drowned in a pond on Tuesday at a village in Rahasguhali within Alakund police station limits in Jajpur district. The deceased have been identified as Mohani Kumari Mallick (12), daughter of Gopa Mallick, and Swarnaprava Mallick (11), daughter of Prasant Mallick. The incident took place when both the children were taking a bath in the pond.
“The girls were fished out of the pond in the afternoon and were taken to the community health centre (CHC) at Binjharpur hospital where the doctors declared them dead,” said the IIC of Alakund police station, Prsanta Kumar Das. Sagram Jena, a resident of Rahasguhali, said, “While entering the pond, one first has to step into a deep pit. This is the main reason behind the mishap.” TNN
