Minister Nitin Nabin Addresses Raja Bazar Parking Issue | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: Amid protests by local businessmen and residents of busy Raja Bazar area, urban development and housing minister Nitin Nabin on Sunday assured people that a solution would soon be found to identify space for plantation as well as for parking under the flyover on Nehru Path (Bailey Road) .
The minister gave the assurance the businessmen and residents, who went to meet him at his official residence, on Sunday here, after the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) had started demolishing the parking space under the flyover and started constructing fences for plantation of trees under the flyover.
Nabin said, “The officials have been asked to stop demolition of parking space under the flyover and also stop the construction work. A formal order in this regard will be issued by the department concerned on Monday.” He added that he would review the situation and take further decision on the issue after holding a discussion with the local business community and residents.
A delegation of Bailey Road Janchetna Manch met Nabin and briefed him about the problems the people would face after demolition of the parking space.
President, Bailey Road Janchetna Manch, Ajay Kumar Rocket said, “All shops and business establishments from Sheikhpura Mor to Jagdeo Path will be closed from 10 am to 2 pm on Monday to protest the decision of the PMC. The shopkeepers and local residents will also hold a protest march on Nehru Path. We will silently protest against the ‘erratic’ and ‘unplanned’ move of the PMC.”
Sources said the construction work for developing plantation slots under the flyover from Sheikhpura to Rukanpura has been halted. They said the PMC has plans to remove the parking space that has capacity to accommodate 513 vehicles between 64 pillars under the flyover and instead develop mini plantation slots.
The decision by the PMC has increased multiple problems for many. As the busy Raja Bazar has important institutions like IGIMS, Paras Hospital, Kendriya Vidyalaya, many nursing homes, coaching centres and hundreds of shops, the creation of plantation spaces would create major problem of parking of vehicles, they said.
“There are about 1,000 shops in area. Due to the work, customers are facing difficulty in parking their vehicles,” said convenor of public welfare society, Deepak Kr Chaurasia.
