Koraput: Union minister of state for coal and mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, skipped the ‘bhumi puja’ for a proposed bauxite mine at Serubandha in Pottangi block of Koraput district on Saturday, as villagers in large numbers took to the streets to protest against mining activities in the area.
Nalco has got permission to mine bauxite from Serubandha hills, and Dubey intended to lead the ceremony.“The minister said that the villagers’ opinions will be recorded and steps will be taken after holding talks with them,” said Pradyumn Mishra, a Nalco spokesman.TNN
