Min slams ‘failure’ of KCR govt’s 1.81L cr irrigation schemes | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday said the Congress govt was working tirelessly to serve the people of Telangana, while former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao was trying to mislead them after ruining the state during his decade-long rule.
Speaking alongside minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and other leaders at the foundation-laying ceremony for a new block at Nalgonda district collectorate, Uttam accused KCR of attacking Congress govt that is working hard to repair the damage he left behind. “Since taking oath on Dec 7, 2023, I have not taken even a day’s leave. We are working round-the-clock to serve people,” he said.

Uttam highlighted that the former BRS govt spent 1.81 lakh crore on irrigation projects without a significant increase in ayacut. “They spent 27,000 crore on Palamuru Rangareddy project and 9,000 crore on Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project, yet not a single acre received irrigation water,” he said. He slammed the Kaleshwaram project as a disaster, alleging, “The Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages collapsed due to poor design, construction, and maintenance. BRS leaders were more interested in commissions than in serving farmers.” Uttam asserted the state govt was committed to completing all pending irrigation projects.
