Min denies links to gangs, says security for Saif poor

Mumbai: Maharashtra’s minister of state for home Yogesh Kadam on Friday said no criminal gang was involved in the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan, but police found flaws in the “security apparatus” around the actor. Kadam said there were no security guards in the vicinity of the actor’s apartment.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde who visited Lilavati hospital to meet Khan on Friday, said, “Police and home department will take care of the security and safety of Saif Ali Khan and his family.

This is the responsibility of the govt.” CM Devendra Fadnavis on Friday also assured swift and resolute action in the case. He expressed confidence in the ongoing police investigation, saying Mumbai Police has crucial leads and are making steady progress in identifying and apprehending the culprits.
Kadam said a suspect was detained (he was later released) in connection with the attack which happened during a burglary attempt. He also said there was no report of Khan receiving threats. He said if the actor requests, the state govt will provide security to him and his family.
“There is no criminal gang behind the attack on Saif Ali Khan. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the attack was for the purpose of theft. A suspect has been identified in the CCTV footage. The police have detained a suspect and are interrogating him. It is suspected that some more people are involved in this case and their search is on. There were no security guards in the vicinity of Khan’s apartment. The police inspected the scene. They found flaws in the security apparatus,” Kadam said.
Kadam also referred to “rumours” that the man who attacked Khan had carried out a recce around Shah Rukh Khan’s home, but said, “the police have not confirmed anything yet.”
