Kendrapada: Police filed a case against a doctor on Sunday on charges of causing the death of a 29-year-old woman allegedly due to a faulty sterilization operation. The incident was reported from a community health centre (CHC) in Jagatsinghpur district.
Kamini Kandi’s husband Gopal Chandra Muduli lodged an FIR against the doctor. In his complaint, Gopal alleged that due to a wrong operation by the doctor, his wife’s condition became serious and had to be shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Friday. Kamini died on Saturday evening. She has a son and daughter.
“Acting on the complaint, we filed a case against the doctor. Investigation is on,” said Bibhuti Kumar Biswal, the investigation officer in the case.
The medical officer of the CHC said, “As per our preliminary investigation, the woman died due to drug reaction. After she fell ill during the operation, we halted the sterilization procedure of other women. Only four women were sterilized on Friday and their condition is good. After getting the autopsy report of the deceased woman, we will know the exact reason behind her death.” The officer added that family members of the deceased will get Rs 4 Lakh compensation from the state govt.
Satrughan Dash, the chief district medical officer of Jagatsinghpur said, “We have ordered an investigation into the incident. After getting the report, the authorities will take proper action.”
