Patna: A married couple died after falling into a septic tank in Mahammadpur Badal village under Sakra police station in Muzaffarpur on Thursday.
Anil Sahni (32) was trying to untie an iron wire tied to the centring of the tank when his wife Pramila Devi (28) fell inside, said police. Sahni stepped into the tank to rescue his wife but lost consciousness due to lack of oxygen.
Local residents informed the police but by the time they arrived, both died of asphyxiation.
Sakra police sub-inspector Rajesh Kumar said they had to break the septic tank with the help of an earth mover to pull out the bodies. “The couple is survived by two children, who are currently with the relatives. Sahni was constructing a new house, where the septic tank was being built.”
