Market Encroaches: Market ‘encroaches’ on State Highway, causing traffic congestion |

Kendrapada: Commuters and motorists have alleged that they are facing inconvenience while travelling on the Cuttack-Chandabali state highway as around 300 vegetable growers sell their produce by encroaching upon the road at Singiri in Kendrapada district.
The major complaints of commuters are encroachment of the highway, haphazard parking of vehicles and frequent digging of the road to set up makeshift tents on both sides every Tuesday and Friday.
“We are not against vegetable growers and traders. But they can’t illegally encroach the state highway twice a week from morning to noon to sell their produce,” said Balabhadra Rout of Singiri. Mahendra Sahoo (52), a vegetable seller, said that they have urged the authorities to build a market complex at Singiri village. But it is yet to be set up, he added.
Nilu Mohapatra, additional district magistrate (ADM), Kendrapada, said, “It is illegal for farmers to encroach upon the state highway to sell vegetables. The authorities will build a market complex soon to shift all the farmers.”
