Mandatory Voting Leave for Employees in Maharashtra Assembly Elections | Mumbai News – Times of India

‘Face action if staff not given leave to vote’

Mumbai: It is mandatory for establishments, companies and industrial undertakings to give leave to their employees and officials on Nov 20 to allow them to vote in the assembly polls, the district election officer has said. It has warned establishments that action will be taken against those who deprive their employees of their right to vote.
In exceptional circumstances, employees need to be given a concession of at least four hours. However, in such instances, prior permission from the district election officer is required.
As per directions of the EC and the state chief electoral officer, various initiatives are being carried out to increase turnout in areas under BMC. The directive to grant leave to employees is one of them.
Establishments have also been told that no deduction of any kind in employees’ salaries should be made in lieu of their leave.
