Man wanted for 2 murders in city caught in New Delhi

Chennai: A guest worker involved in a double murder case was arrested by a special Thoraipakkam police team from a hideout in Delhi on Sunday.
Kamrul Alam, 38, a native of Bihar, had been employed as a tile-laying worker at construction sites in the city. On April 17, 2018, after Mayandi, 61, and his wife Valli Nayagi, 60, were found murdered in their house at Thoraipakkam, police cracked the case by arresting Kamrul Alam. They recovered a few pieces of gold jewellery stolen from the couple’s residence. They said the double-murder was committed to steal 12 sovereigns of gold jewellery and some cash.
After being released from Puzhal prison on bail in 2018, Kamrul Alam disappeared with his family. Then, due to the Covid-19 imposed lockdown, police didn’t keep track of the suspect. A court, however, issued a non-bailable warrant against Kamrul Alam prompting police to look for him.
During a review meeting, his case was discussed, and a team traced him to Delhi. He kept migrating from one place to another to evade police apprehension, said police.
The team brought him to Chennai and produced him before a magistrate who remanded him in judicial custody.
