Bengaluru: A 38-year-old carpenter was arrested on charges of trying to smother her and then pouring an instant adhesive glue into her mouth in their Harokyatanahalli residence in Nelamangala, Bengaluru Rural.
The accused is G Siddalinga Swamy. His wife, Manjula, 33, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Quoting doctors, police said Manjula is out of danger.
Investigation revealed the couple is from Raichur and lived in Harokyatanahalli. Theirs was a love marriage, family sources told police.
“They had no children and Swamy often suspected Manjula’s fidelity. On Sunday night, they fought over the same issue. When Manjula was asleep, Swamy first tried to smother her. When she lost consciousness, Swamy poured the glue he used for wood work into her mouth. According to Swamy, he did it thinking the liquid would arrest her nerves and kill her by stopping her breathing,” a police officer said.
Thinking she was dead, Swamy walked into Madanayakanahalli police station late Sunday night and surrendered himself. “I killed my wife as she had an affair,” was all Swamy said.
A police officer said: “We found Manjula still breathing, and fortunately, we had taken an ambulance with us when we rushed to the couple’s house. Washing her mouth with hot water in the moving ambulance, we tried to ease her breathing. Then we shifted Manjula to a hospital.”
