Man sleeping on floor drowns in house after heavy rain | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A 40-year-old man sleeping on the floor drowned after rainwater surged into his home in a low-lying area in Suraram during the heavy downpour on Tuesday night .The victim, K Padmarao, was a car driver and lived in the single-storey house with his mother Krishnaveni. On Tuesday night, Padmarao had gone to sleep early as it was raining incessantly. As the house is below the level of the colony’s cement road and does not have a compound wall, Padmarao had built a 45 cm wall around the main door to prevent rainwater from easily entering the house, police said. On Tuesday night, at around 7:30 pm, rainwater started entering the low-lying areas. “By 8 pm, three feet water had entered the house. He was sleeping on the floor and drowned. His mother went to look for Padmarao as he had not come out. She dragged him out of the door in the water and, with the help of neighbours, took him to a dry patch nearby. Alerted by locals, 108 staff reached there and declared him dead,” Suraram inspector Bharat Kumar said.Police suspect that Padmarao might have been drunk at the time of the incident. His wife has been living separately for three years due to marital discord. They have three children, police said. On the complaint of his wife Jyothy, a case was registered under BNS section 194. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
