Man shoots elder brother with arrow, beats him to death

Rourkela: A 45-year-old man was killed by his younger brother using a bow and arrow following a dispute over food in Sundargarh district’s Lunga village on Saturday. The accused later tried to end his life by consuming insecticide.
According to police reports, accused Sanatan Munda (40) used to frequently seek food from his elder brother Gamiya’s household. When he was refused a meal last week, it created feelings of humiliation. On Saturday morning, Sanatan arrived at Gamiya’s house armed with a bow and arrow and shot his brother in the stomach. Though Gamiya managed to remove the arrow and attempted to flee, Sanatan pursued him and repeatedly struck him on the head with the bow until he succumbed to his injuries under a tree.
The incident was witnessed by the local gram rakhi, who alerted the cops. The victim’s 18-year-old daughter, Sima Munda, discovered her father’s body and filed a complaint against her uncle at Mahulpada police station.
“We have registered a murder case against the accused,” said S C Pradhan, IIC of Mahulpada police station. “Sanatan is receiving treatment at Bonai sub-divisional hospital. He will be arrested upon discharge.”
