Puri: A 30-year-old man killed his mother in a fit of rage when she refused to give him money. The incident took place on Thursday morning at Samangara village under Penthakata Marine police station limits in Puri district. The accused, who was intoxicated at the time of the incident, was allegedly demanding his mother for money to buy alcohol. He has been arrested.Puri DSP Babita Dalei said a murder case has been registered.Around 7am on Thursday, Kanaka Pradhan (55) was feeding cattle outside her home when her son, Bikram Pradhan, demanded money. When Kanaka refused, Bikram grabbed a nearby hoe and struck her on the head. The blow was so severe that her skull was split into two. She died on the spot due to heavy bleeding.Following the incident, villagers attacked the accused and later clashed with the police officers who had come to rescue him. Four police personnel were injured in the confrontation.Bikram was rescued in a critical condition and admitted to the district headquarters hospital.Police investigations revealed that he had a history of violent behaviour. His wife had earlier fled to her parents home with their two children due to his frequent abuse under the influence of drugs. He had also previously assaulted his parents and served jail time for it.
