Man kills grandfather over property dispute in Fatuha

Patna: A youth, Neeraj Yadav (26), shot dead his grandfather, Sharvi Yadav (71), over a property dispute in Kolhar village at Fatuha in Patna district in the wee hours of Monday. The accused has been arrested and is being interrogated, police said.
Following the killing, the family informed the Fatuha police station after which the police arrived Kolhar village and sent the body for postmortem at Fatuha subdivision hospital.
Police said Sharvi was shot dead in the head from close range while he was sleeping in the verandah of his house. “After committing the crime, Neeraj fled from the village. On hearing the gun shot, the family members and rushed to the verandah, finding Sharvi lying in a pool of blood. The deceased’s son, Rajkumar Yadav, informed the Fatuha police about the incident after which Fatuha SDPO Nikhil Kumar, along with police force, arrived in the village,” said the police.
The SDPO said preliminary investigation suggests that there was a property dispute between the grandfather and grandson, which led to the killing. The police recovered two bullet shells, which suggests that the old man was shot from a close distance, he said.
“In accordance with the new criminal law, the forensic and dog squad teams visited the spot and collected samples for lodging case against the accused,” the SDPO added.
Fatuha SHO, Rupak Kumar said Sharvi was owner of huge property, including a house in Fatuha town, and Neeraj was asking for its division.
“Neeraj was living in a rented flat with his wife and children in the town. He was demanding from his grandfather to register the house of Fatuha in his name. Sharvi was against it, so Neeraj killed him in a fit of rage,” the SHO added.
