Ara: A quarrel over brandishing of a gun at a wedding in Bhojpur district snowballed into a clash late Wednesday, leading to the death of a 30-year-old civil service aspirant.
Santosh Kumar was part of the groom’s entourage and among those who had opposed the flaunting of the weapon by a youth from the bride’s side during the ceremony at Kulhariya village in Koilwar area. Santosh , a resident of nearby Chhotki Sonadiya village, was thrashed and later succumbed to his injuries at Ara Sadar Hospital.
A case has been filed against five people after a complaint from Santosh’s brother, Koilwar SHO Narottam Chandra said. “Raids are on to arrest the attackers,” the SHO added.
Santosh, a friend of the groom and co-villager Vikki, was present when tensions flared during the jaimala (exchange of garlands) ceremony. Both the bride’s and groom’s families objected to the brandishing of the gun.
