Balasore: A poacher was arrested while his uncle managed to flee following an exchange of fire with forest guards at Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary in Balasore district on Sunday night. The arrested poacher has been identified as Madha Singh, a resident of Jampada area under Soro police station limits.
According to forest department sources, a four-member team of forest guards and members of Sabuja Bahini intercepted the poachers late at night in Gudikhania area. The poachers fired at the forest officials, who managed to overpower and arrest one of the poachers. They seized a gun, torch, knife, ammunition and two bags filled with hunting equipment from the spot.
A Sabuja Bahini member sustained injury and is currently undergoing treatment at Nilagiri sub-divisional hospital.
Kuldiha range officer Subrat Behera said an investigation is underway and efforts are on to apprehend Singh’s uncle.
