Man held for slitting ex-girlfriend’s throat; tries to end his life | Bhubaneswar News

Balasore: Police on Wednesday arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend in Balasore district on Monday, but not after he attempted to end his life by consuming poison upon spotting the cops.
The accused, identified as Biswaranjan Puhan, had been on the run after slitting Jyotirmayee Rana‘s (25) throat in Lingapada village under Soro police station limits. Following the murder which was allegedly committed after Jyotirmayee rejected Biswaranjan’s marriage proposal, four police teams were formed to track him down. To evade arrest, he constantly changed locations, making it difficult for law enforcement officers to track him down. After extensive searches in multiple locations, the accused was finally traced to a field near Telasahi under Basudevpur police station limits in Bhadrak district late on Tuesday night.
However, upon spotting the police, the accused allegedly consumed poison and jumped into a pond to end his life. But police rescued him and admitted him to Basudevpur hospital. Later, he was shifted to Balasore district headquarters hospital.
Satyajit Naik, DIG (eastern range), said, “The accused has been apprehended. A thorough investigation is underway, and strict action will be taken to ensure justice for the victim. We are also reviewing the circumstances leading to the crime and the involvement of any other persons in the case,” he added.
