Man held for raping minor girl who gave birth | Bhubaneswar News

Kendrapada: Police in Jajpur district arrested a 22-year-old man on Friday for allegedly raping a 15-year-old student who gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday night.
The accused is a neighbour of the girl who was appearing for her HSC examinations. The incident came to light on Wednesday night when the minor was rushed to a community health centre (CHC) with severe abdominal pain, where she delivered the baby.
Investigating officer Ramakanta Nayak said the accused has been charged under Section 376 (2) (n) of the IPC for repeated rape and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. “During interrogation, Jena confessed to sexually assaulting the victim for more than 10 months,” Nayak said.
District child protection officer Niranjan Kar said both the minor and her newborn are admitted to the district headquarters hospital. “We have informed the collector, district education officer, chief district medical officer, and district child welfare committee about the case,” Kar added.
Authorities plan to rehabilitate the minor girl in a govt-run shelter home, ensuring her welfare and education while protecting both mother and child. The child welfare committee (CWC) will conduct further investigation and take appropriate action, they said.
