NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl and threatening her with an acid attack in Mumbai’s Bhoiwada locality.
According to the Bhoiwada police station official, the accused, Dashrath Ashok Ramane, stalked the 14-year-old girl, often tried to get close to her and harassed her on multiple occasions between August 6 and August 28.
On August 28, he followed her, grabbed her hand, and threatened her with an acid attack when she resisted.
“Fed up with constant harassment, the girl told her parents about the ordeal,” the police official stated. Following her complaint, her parents caught Ramane and brought him to the Bhoiwada Police Station, where they filed a complaint.
Based on this complaint, police have registered an FIR against Ramane under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to stalking, molestation, and criminal intimidation. Additionally, relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been invoked.
The police subsequently arrested Ramane, the official added.
