Man Held For Duping Women: Man arrested for duping women with marriage promise | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: In what appears like a web series script, a 36-year-old man conned five women, all divorcees or widows, into marrying him and took their money amounting to lakhs of rupees, before luck finally ran out.
Satyajit Mangovind Samal, identified himself as a police inspector or a central govt employee to woo these women with whom he came in touch over matrimonial sites.
After their relationship progressed over the phone, Samal forced the women to enter into a physical relationship with him and demanded money to start some business, said a police officer after his arrest.
In two cases, Samal took Rs 45 lakh from them and bought vehicles. He had deployed some vehicles with travel agencies and was earning rent from those, police said.
“In two cases, we found that his intention was to extract money from them by forcing them to avail personal loans repeatedly. One woman availed personal loans from four banks. He threatened the women with guns to do so,” said twin cities police commissioner Sanjeeb Panda. “During interrogation, it was revealed that he had a physical relationship with the women. There is also evidence of intimate videos and photographs. Two women whom he married were from Kolkata and Delhi. But complaints of Odisha women led us to ascertain his criminal antecedent,” said Panda.
Samal from Jajpur district was staying in Chandasekharpur area here. But after the crimes, he fled to Dubai. Police lured him to return from Dubai to date a girl and arrested him. After Samal’s bail plea was rejected by a local court, he was remanded to judicial custody. Police have seized Rs 2,10,000 cash, a car, a motorcycle, one firearm and three mobile phones from him. Police have frozen his bank account that had Rs 1.75 lakh deposits. He is in touch with 49 other women over matrimonial sites. Police will contact those women. “We will also write to the matrimony sites to get more information about the accused,” Panda added.
In Feb 2022, city police arrested Ramesh Swain, a native of Kendrapada district, for marrying 18 women, by posing as a doctor.
