Navi Mumbai: At least three youths from Mumbai drowned in the waters of a dam in Karjat, Raigad, and a river in Khed, Ratnagiri. On Sunday, two youths from Govandi — Khalid Shaikh and Ibrahim Khan — who had gone on a picnic drowned in Pali Bhutwali dam, near Neral. In the other drowning incident, Devendra Rane (26), drowned while trying to dive in the river waters at KhedFriday evening.He was in Ratnagiri to attend his sister’s wedding when tragedy struck.Shaikh and Khan were accompanied by one of their friends, Hitvesh Khandu. The three were on a picnic to the dam site. The two who drowned had got into the dam waters for a bath. They did not know to swim, nor did they know the depth of the water. On hearing Khandu’s screams, locals reached the spot. The two had been trapped in 20-ft-deep water were brought out. They were declared dead. An accidental death case has been registered at Neral police station. In the other case, the youngster who works in Mumbai had gone for a swim with a few friends to Chaurad river. Rane sustained grievous head injury when he dived into the river water. He was rushed to the sub-district hospital at Kalambani where he was declared dead on arrival by doctors. An accident death report has been filed at Khed police station.
