Jharsuguda: A 40-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Jharsuguda additional district and sessions court on Friday for murdering his wife in 2021.
Judge Subhash Dhal found Rabi Naik alias Uddhab Naik guilty of killing his 30-year-old wife, Surubali Naik, a resident of Laikera.
Additional public prosecutor Gangadhar Garnaik said that Rabi strangled his wife to death following a domestic quarrel around 6 pm on March 16, 2021. The victim’s family filed a complaint at Laikera police station, leading to Rabi’s arrest under Section 302 of the IPC.
The court examined 27 witnesses and reviewed 32 pieces of documentary evidence before pronouncing the verdict. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.TNN
