Sambalpur: A special Pocso court in Bargarh district on Monday sentenced a 28-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a six-year-old girl four years ago. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
The incident took place on Dec 12, 2019, when the girl was lured by the convict who promised to buy her new footwear and sexually assaulted her. The girl narrated her ordeal to her parents, who lodged a complaint at the local police station.
The court pronounced the sentence after recording the statements of 18 witnesses. The court has also ordered a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the girl, said special public prosecutor in-charge Dyutish Acharya.
