Hyderabad: The VI Additional Sessions Court in Secunderabad on Monday sentenced V Manohar Chary, 48, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with an attempted murder case reported at SR Nagar in 2018.
Chary had severed his daughter’s hand for marrying a man from the Dalit community and also attacked the man with a machete. A goldsmith by profession, Chary wanted her daughter to marry a relative instead.The court handed down 10 years of rigorous imprisonment on each charge of attempted murder and violation of the Prevention of Atrocities Against SC/ST Act, with both sentences to run concurrently. Chary was also fined 2,000 on each charge.
Chary was arrested shortly after the incident. During the trial, the court reviewed the couple’s testimony and other evidence, ultimately finding him guilty of the crime.tnn
