Man fakes own kidnapping to settle debts | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: A man was arrested by the Patna police on Tuesday for orchestrating his own kidnapping to pay off his debt. Danapur ASP Diksha said Amit Ranjan, a resident of Barbigha Sherpur who lives with his wife in a rented house in Luv Kush Nagar on Gola Road here, had been missing since July 25.
ASP Diksha said Ranjan’s wife, Manisha Kumari, filed a complaint with the Rupaspur police station on July 26, alleging that her husband had been kidnapped.“According to her, Amit left Khagaria for some work on July 25 at 7am. He informed his wife about his kidnapping by unidentified people from Simri Bakhtiyarpur by sending a message at night. A ransom of Rs 20 lakh was demanded for his release,” she said. A team led by Rupaspur police station SHO Ranvijay Kumar was formed to investigate the case. The police traced Amit’s last known location to Saharsa, but found no evidence there.
“As the matter seemed suspicious, police started tracking his location through his cellphone. He was last spotted at Agamkuan and Transport Nagar. When the police became active, Amit reached the police station on Monday evening and informed them that he was safe. During investigation, it was found that he had taken loans from many people to play online games,” she said.
The ASP added, “He used to borrow money from one person, play games online, and repay the loan to another. When he could not repay the loans, he devised the plan to fake his own kidnapping. After interrogation, he was sent to judicial custody.”
