Man beaten to death by father-son duo | Bhubaneswar News
Balangir: A man was allegedly beaten to death by a father-son duo at Sargad village in Balangir district late Thursday night following an argument at an eatery run by the accused. The accused were arrested within 24 hours of the incident.
The accused have been identified as Lingaraj Naik (61) and his son Premananda Naik (32). The deceased has been identified as Arun Sai Patel (38), a co-villager.
“The prime motive behind the murder appears to be Arun’s repeated harassment of the accused. He would allegedly forcefully take food and money from the dhaba run by the accused. On the day of the incident, a quarrel broke out which later escalated into a fatal assault,” said Avilash G, Balangir SP.
Police said Arun frequently visited the dhaba and allegedly ordered food and liquor without paying. On the day of the incident, Arun and his associate Jugeswar Saraf, both reportedly in an inebriated state, got into an argument with Lingaraj and Premananda. They also allegedly misbehaved with a woman of the Naik family. The argument escalated, and the father-son duo assaulted Arun and Jugeswar with bamboo planks. Arun died on the spot, while Jugeswar sustained severe head injuries.
Initially detained for questioning, the father and son were later arrested after police gathered sufficient evidence to establish a murder case. Their bail pleas were rejected, and they were remanded in judicial custody.
