Man axed to death in Sambalpur village | Bhubaneswar News

Sambalpur: A 56-year-old man was brutally hacked to death by his relative in Ganjabahal village under Kisinda police limits in Sambalpur district on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Murali Dhal, while the accused, Giridhari Sahu (50) from Ganjagola, was detained by police. The axe used in the crime was also seized. The incident occurred around 11.30am when the victim was travelling by bike along the village road. Sahu attacked him with an axe, killing him on the spot.
Following his detention, Sahu confessed to the crime. “They abducted my daughter when she was going to Naktideul College in November 2021. I tried to file a case, but it was in vain. Six months later, I found out she was pregnant. When I tried to bring her back, he threatened me with gunfire by hiring goons. That’s why I killed him with an axe,” Sahu said.
Rairakhol SDPO Prashant Kumar Meher, along with Kisinda police and a scientific team, reached the crime scene for investigation. The body was seized and sent for post-mortem.
SDPO Meher confirmed that the accused’s daughter, who is the daughter-in-law of the deceased, lodged a complaint against her own father. “We have detained the accused and seized the weapon. He will be arrested and produced in court tomorrow. Further investigation is underway,” Meher said.
