Berhampur: A 26-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly shooting at a 45-year-old woman at J Ramapalli under Ganjam district’s Kodala police station limits on Wednesday night.Police said he fired at her, alleging she spread rumours about him after a heated exchange of words between them. He fled towards the forest after the attack. Deepak Kumar Mishra, SDPO, Purushottampur said, “Suresh Chandra Pradhan, a distant relative of the woman, was arrested from the Singhashani forest.” “During our search, we came to know he was inside the forest area. We raided the area and arrested him from the jungle,” said Subash Behera, Inspector in-charge, Kodala police station. A nine-mm pistol, along with seven live rounds of ammunition, was recovered from his possession, police said. He possessed the pistol illegally. The sources of his firearms is under investigation.The woman is undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and is stated to be in a critical condition.
