Man arrested for rape, blackmail of teen | Bhubaneswar News
Kendrapada: Police arrested a 28-year-old man on Wednesday for allegedly raping and blackmailing a 16-year-old girl in Jajpur district. The accused had reportedly been threatening the teen with obscene photos and videos.
Investigating officer Samarjit Nayak said the accused, who lives in the girl’s neighbourhood, befriended her last year. He allegedly established a physical relationship with her promising to marry her while secretly capturing inappropriate photos and videos of her on his mobile phone.
“The accused had been using these materials to blackmail the girl for sexual favours,” said Nayak. “When the girl refused to continue the relationship last week, he circulated her private photos on social media platforms.”
Following a complaint filed by the girl on Tuesday, police arrested the man under multiple charges. Police have seized the accused’s mobile phone as evidence. A local court rejected his bail application on Wednesday and remanded him in judicial custody.
