Man arrested for posing as Armyman, police officer

Berhampur: A 40-year-old man claiming to be from Punjab was arrested by police here for allegedly impersonating military and police personnel by wearing counterfeit uniforms.
The accused, identified as Raju Santra, was apprehended after locals in Gandhi Nagar area brought him to Town police station, suspecting his credentials. Police recovered an Army uniform, cap, police khaki pants, and a fake Gujarat police identity card from his possession.
During interrogation, Santra claimed he was an Armyman stationed at Wagah border and had come to Gopalpur Army Air Defence College on duty. However, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said verification with the Indian Army, Amritsar and Gujarat police revealed that the accused was not serving in any security force.
“The suspect failed to produce any valid identification documents, including voter ID or Aadhaar card,” the SP said. “Initial investigation suggests he used the fake uniforms and ID cards to travel without tickets and fraudulently collect money from the public.”
A case has been registered at Town police station under sections 336(2) (forgery), 319(2) (cheating by personation), and 318(4) (cheating) of BNS. Due to his inability to provide verifiable identification and address, the accused will be presented in court as an “unidentified person”.
Police are conducting further investigation to uncover the full extent of his fraudulent activities and possible connection to similar cases.
