Rourkela: The Sundargarh police on Monday arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly abetting the suicide of a woman whom he had befriended on a social media platform. The victim, a 25-year-old married woman who had left her husband’s house and was living with the accused, was found hanging from a scarf in his house on Jan 10. “We have arrested him on charges of abetment to suicide. Further investigation is underway,” inspector Pradeep Naik said.
The arrest was made after the victim’s father filed a complaint on Jan 10, alleging that his daughter was murdered. Following an investigation and a post-mortem examination, police concluded it to be a case of suicide.
The accused reportedly got into a relationship with the victim after getting in touch with her online around six months ago. Police said the accused convinced her to leave her husband’s house and she started living with him since Dec.
