Vasai: Murder accused Mohammed Tabrez Mohammed Idris Ansari, 52, who was on the run for the last 23 years, was arrested by the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) crime branch from Dombivli on March 17. He was accused of murdering his sister-in- law by slitting her throat when she came to stay at their Virar home on June 6 2002. He had immediately fled the spot and couldn’t be traced. Cops confirmed that after booking him for murder, the accused was on the run for the first six to seven years. The crime branch then contacted the Nalnada cops in Bihar who confirmed that he was not spotted in his village. This is when the cops concluded that he could be anywhere in Maharashtra.
Recently, the local crime branch with the help of technical data, zeroed in on his location in a chawl room in Dombivli and arrested him, where he lived with a changed identity. —Vishal Rajemahadik
