Make road safety a mass movement: CM | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Road safety should be turned into a mass movement, chief minister Mohan Majhi urged the people while inaugurating the state-level celebration of ‘national road safety month‘ here on Saturday. “Come home safe,” was the CM’s message to people.
On the occasion, the CM also announced the creation of 2,000 new traffic police posts to strengthen road safety, with 500 positions to be filled this year. He also participated in a walk during the event held at Mahatma Gandhi Marg to enhance the effectiveness of the awareness campaign.
Majhi also flagged off a road safety awareness vehicle, which will tour all districts throughout the month. Short films related to road safety will be screened in the van.
He administered the road safety oath to drivers, NCC cadets and the public. He advised everyone to commit to safe travel by adhering to all rules and being responsible for the safety of other road users.
“Over 47,000 lives were lost in road accidents in the state over the past 10 years, which is an alarming trend,” Majhi said. He said there is a need for collective efforts to reduce road accident fatalities.
“There is a need to spread the awareness message to every city, village and household. Individuals, institutions, and organisations from all sections of society should join the campaign,” he said.
He also launched the govt-operated ‘Odisha Yatri’ app to provide convenient and accessible travel. “Through this app, people can easily book autos and taxis to their destinations with a single click, which will benefit both drivers and passengers,” he said.
