MUMBAI: Workers of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) allegedly slapped an employee of a prominent supermarket chain in Mumbai after the staff member did not communicate in Marathi, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday at the D-Mart outlet situated in Versova, Andheri (West), as reported by authorities.
In a viral social media video, a store worker was recorded saying to a patron, “I will not speak in Marathi, I will speak only in Hindi. Do what you want to do.”
Upon learning of these remarks, several MNS members, headed by the party’s Versova unit president Sandesh Desai, visited the establishment and reportedly struck the employee.
The incident of the assault was also captured on video and has been circulating on various social media platforms.
Officials noted that the store employee subsequently offered an apology for his conduct.
