Maha medical council polls scheduled to be held Apr 3

Mumbai: Elections for nine members of Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), a quasi-judicial body that oversees the working of the medical fraternity in the state, will be held on April 3.
The last day to file nomination papers is Feb 18, said a notification issued by MMC returning officer Shilpa Kiran Parab. Voting will be conducted through a secret ballot. Elections to MMC are being held almost two years after the last council finished its term in Aug 2022.
MMC carries out important tasks like registration of doctors, holding hearings on medical negligence, giving permission to continuing medical education (CME), among others.
Soon after the council was dissolved in 2022, JJ Hospital dean Dr Pallavi Saple was appointed as administrator for a year. Thereafter, additional charge was given to Directorate of Medical Education and Research director Dr Dilip Mhaisekar. In Feb 2024, Dr Vinky Rughwani from Nagpur was appointed as the new administrator. TNN
