Madhepura people expect completion of much-awaited Kosi bridge this year

Madhepura: This year, Madhepura is expecting completion of an ambitious 7km four-lane bridge project over river Kosi, connecting Falaut village in the district to Bihpur in Bhagalpur, which is part of national highway (NH)-106.
As part of the Rs 1,500 crore-worth project, three bridges, including the longest of around 6km, are being built over the east-bound Kosi, which will bring down the road distance between Fulaut and Bihpur to 12km from 72km, and consequently travel time to around 2 hours. Its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through videoconferencing in 2020. Its construction was earlier expected to be completed in three years, but the work itself started after one year.
After four long years, the construction of the bridge in the first phase is near completion, while a 30km-long approach road from Fulaut village will be taken up next. The bridge will minimize .
The NH-106 is directly linked with NH-31 at Bihpur and subsequently with Bhagalpur city through Bikramshila bridge. The NH-106, locally known as Birpur-Bihpur road, connects Bantabari on India-Nepal border with a four-lane east-west corridor at Simrahi in Supaul district.
This bridge will prove to be a boon for the people of Mithila and Kosi regions, giving better road connectivity between Uda-Kishungaj subdivision of Madhepura district and Bhagalpur.

The NHIDCL announced the completion of 76% of the NH-37 four-lane project between Jorhat and Jhanji, set to be finished by Feb 2025. The work includes 12 vehicular underpasses and spans 37.8 km. Challenges included material shortages and extended rainfall. Three contractors are involved with a total investment of Rs 738.15 crore.
