M A Baby meets Stalin; terms BJP-AIADMK ties opportunistic | Chennai News – The Times of India

Chennai: CPM general secretary M A Baby flayed the AIADMK for opposing the Waqf Amendment Act in Parliament while shaking hands with the BJP outside.
Baby who called on chief minister M K Stalin here on Sunday, termed the BJP- AIADMK tie-up an opportunistic alliance. On the other hand, Baby said, the DMK front in TN was a role model for the whole country.
“AIADMK voted against the bill but is shaking hands with the BJP which has brought the anti-minority, unconstitutional, pernicious piece of legislation. Many provisions of the Waqf Act are in contradiction with the constitutional rights guaranteed for minorities,” he said.
This is the first meeting of Baby with Stalin after he was elected general secretary at CPM’s 24th Congress held in Madurai. He was accompanied by CPM state secretary P Shanmugam and Polit Bureau members K Balakrishnan and U Vasuki.
“We congratulated Stalin for the non-communal, progressive and democratic alliance in TN due to which communal forces are unable to make headway,” he said.
Calling the DMK-led alliance in TN a model for the entire country, Baby said, the alliance will be strengthened. “More and more parties will join the alliance,” he said.
Hitting out at the BJP govt at the Centre, Baby said, “There is a systematic attack on secularism, minority rights and democratic rights of the people of India by the BJP govt at the Centre based on the direction given by the RSS. Waqf Amendment Act is the latest example of their agenda,” he said.
In a tweet about the meeting with the CPM leader, Stalin said, “Our bond stays firm, our alliance grows stronger!”
Thanking Baby for congratulating DMK and the Supreme Court verdict exposing the limits of governor’s office and for constituting a high-level panel to study and submit a report on state autonomy, Stalin said these are not isolated victories. Stalin said these are the living expressions of the federal ideals jointly championed by DMK and CPM.
