PATNA: Eight constituencies in the state – Nalanda, Patna Sahib, Patliputra, Ara, Buxar, Sasaram, Karakat and Jehanabad – will go to polls in the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha elections amid tight security on Saturday.
Despite concerns over scorching heat that led to lower voter turnout in some of the previous phases of elections in the state, the authorities concerned have left no stone unturned to ensure participation of electorate in large numbers in the festival of democracy on Saturday.
Byelection in Agiaon seat today
Byelection will be held in Agiaon (reserved) assembly seat in Bhojpur district on Saturday. The byelection was necessitated by disqualification of CPI(ML) MLA Manoj Manzil following his conviction in a murder case by a local court.
The Left party’s candidate in the assembly bypoll is Shiv Prakash Ranjan, a former student leader, while the NDA has fielded Prabhunath Prasad of JD (U), the runner-up of 2020 Vidhan Sabha polls, when he lost to Manzil by a margin of over 48,000 votes. T
