Locals, activists urge govt to make Jeypore RI training institute operational | Bhubaneswar News

Koraput: A Revenue Inspector Training Institute (RITI), constructed on the outskirts of Jeypore in Koraput district, is yet to be made operational over three years after its completion.
Built at a cost of around Rs 3 crore, the institute was envisioned as a key training centre for newly recruited and untrained revenue inspectors (RI)s and assistant RIs from Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts. The building is now showing signs of neglect and decay due to non-use, sources said.
Local activist Debandra Adhikari said, “It’s unfortunate that even after more than three years of completion, the RITI building remains unused. State govt should take immediate steps to ensure the institute becomes operational before further damage occurs.”
The institute was set up to reduce the inconvenience faced by RIs and assistant RIs who now depend on a training facility in Khallikote, Ganjam district. The Jeypore RITI, with a capacity to train up to 100 per batch, was expected to address the gap.
During the pandemic, the facility was repurposed as a Covid-19 centre and later as a rest house for ambulance drivers from the district headquarters hospital. Despite being handed over to the revenue department, the building still lacks essential furniture, equipment and staffing required for its operation.
“Though the building has been handed over to the revenue department, necessary furniture and teaching and non-teaching staff are yet to be procured and appointed,” said Sabyasachi Jena, tehsildar of Jeypore. He said the Board of Revenue in Cuttack has been informed and that operations will commence upon receiving approval.
Local residents and officials have urged the govt to expedite the process to prevent further deterioration of the facility.
