Ara: The police seized a huge quantity of India made foreign liquor (IMFL) concealed in peanut sacks and loaded in a truck bearing registration number of Madhya Pradesh on the Ara-Buxar national highway on Friday night.
The police also arrested a liquor smuggler, Meharban, a native of Halwana village in the Gangoh police station area of Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh.
Talking to reporters at the Sahpur police station in Bhojpur district, Jagdishpur SDPO Rajiv Chandra Singh said on Saturday that following a tip-off that a huge quantity of IMFL was being smuggled in a truck through the Ara-Buxar NH, a police team led by him seized the truck and arrested the smugglers.
“The truck was stopped near Ranisagar bus stand in Shahpur police station area and 6409.8 litre of IMFL, concealed in peanuts sacks, was recovered from the vehicle. The police also arrested the liquor smuggler who hails from Uttar Pradesh,” he said. Two cellphones were also seized from him.
“A case under the relevant sections of the Bihar prohibition and excise Act has been registered with the Sahpur police station in this regard,” the SDPO added.
