Liquor raid: Cops attacked in Bhojpur district | Patna News – Times of India



Ara: A joint team of the Bhojpur police and Counter Insurgency and Anti-Terrorism (CIAT) sleuths faced a violent attack on Sunday evening while conducting a raid against illicit liquor smugglers at Khanni Kala village, under the jurisdiction of Agiyaon Bazaar police station in the Piro sub-division of Bhojpur district.
The incident occurred when the police team reached the village, and a group of youths playing cricket started pelting stones at them.Soon, other villagers joined the youths in their attack on the police, resulting in a chaotic situation.
Bhojpur SP Pramod Kumar Yadav said the joint team, comprising personnel from the Agiyaon Bazaar police station and the CIAT, had gone to Khanni Kala village to conduct a raid against illicit liquor smugglers. However, as soon as they reached the village, they were met with hostility from the locals, he added.
The situation escalated quickly as the youths playing cricket began hurling stones at the police officers. Within moments, other villagers joined in, intensifying the attack. During the stone pelting, a constable named Vijay sustained a head injury. The windows of a police vehicle were smashed by the villagers.
The SP said an FIR had been registered in connection with the attack, and four people were arrested. He said most assailants had been identified, and raids were being conducted to apprehend them. The police also managed to seize some illicit liquor from the village during the operation.
