Letters found in drain, fake postman booked

Vasai: The Arnala police in Virar booked a 28-year-old man on Thursday for posing as a postman, picking up the delivery (letters) and dumping them into a nullah. The sealed letters contained Aadhaar cards, LIC papers and bank cards, among other crucial papers. The accused, who is yet to be arrested, has been identified as Virar-resident Atul Kamble.
A passerby who spotted a bunch of letters floating in the nullah near Arnala dumping ground informed police.
Probe revealed that a Dak Sevak, Akshay, had arranged a substitute for himself who instead sent Atul on duty. The postmaster of Arnala post office, Dak Sevak Akshay and another employee who handed over the letters to Atul without following due protocol have been suspended by the postal department and an internal inquiry is underway, confirmed a senior officer. —
